Brazilian Real
Brazil is a steady exporter of metals, commodities and energy. It is the fifth-largest country in the world and has the fourth-youngest population of the countries whose currencies we offer.
Since 2010, Brazil’s GDP has been weak, as the country has struggled with inflation. This weakened its currency, the Brazilian real (BRL). Brazil has the fourth-lowest GDP per capita1 of the G20 countries.
In recent years, the Central Bank of Brazil has raised interest rates (called the Selic rate) to double-digit levels. Prices continue to rise today but at a slower pace as the GDP begins to grow10 again.
Brazil is a member of the BRICS group of emerging market economies.
