Brazil is a steady exporter of metals, commodities and energy. It is the fifth largest country in the world and has the fourth youngest population1 of the currencies we offer.
Since 2010, Brazil’s GDP has been weak as the country struggled with inflation. This weakened its currency, the Brazilian Real (BRL). It has the fourth lowest GDP per capita2 of G20 countries.
In recent years, the Central Bank of Brazil has raised interest rates (called the Selic rate) to double-digit levels. Prices continue to rise today but at a slower pace3 as the GDP begins to grow4 again.
Brazil is a member of the BRICS group of emerging market economies.
